Why Merrell Wrapt Shoes Are Perfect for Unique Feet

The Merrell Wrapt keeps my freaky, funky feet happy. Read on to learn why.

If you’ve followed us over here from Bike World News (and thank you if you did!), you probably know by now that I have freaky feet – different lengths, different widths and different arches and insteps. It should be no surprise that I struggle to find shoes that work for me without resorting to the very limited options available to those that want to buy ‘mixed’ pairs.

So I buy a LOT of shoes trying to find something that works for daily wear. I haven’t turned into Imelda Marcos just yet, but sometimes my wife thinks that I have an unhealthy obsession. When I came across the Merrell Wrapt (normally $110, $82 on sale) in a fall sale, I figured something different was worth a try.

Shoes that are shaped like your foot. Imagine that!

Just out of caution, I usually give most new shoes a week or so of just walking around the house before I wear them outside. When the Wrapts arrived, however, they just felt right. Part of Merrell’s barefoot collection, they are designed to mimic the shape of your foot – both in the last and insole and outsole. While the fit was close, it was not too snug, and my bunions had room to exist in the roomy toebox of the pig suede leather upper.

If you’ve ever had a pair of Birkenstocks that you really allowed to break in and mold to the shape of your foot, that’s what the fit is most akin to, but the Wrapt serves up that level of comfort on day one!

The outsole is thin and lets you feel the ground, but still offers plenty of protection.

While offering plenty of protection from twigs, small rocks and other debris, the outsole is definitely thin, and allows my foot to move naturally within the shoe. That said, it still serves up plenty of grip for scrambling around on trails and boulders.

My day job is working for a county park system, so I can pretty much wear these shoes every day. And I pretty much do.

The Wrapt ‘family’ also includes a slide that loosely resembles Birkenstock’s Boston shoe and a ‘mid-hi’ model if you want a little more support.

Rating: These get 5/5 for making my feet happy.
